Trial Of the Witch: Update On Assets

My  Game so far

So far the assets that I have been using works will with my idea concept and I am thinking of adding a few new animation assets for certain features of my game such as throwing a potion which then polymorps enemies to turn them into a frog or a rabbit. Then the player can throw a acid potion to melt them away. Not only that I also added some props that tell more about the game.

Potion Throwing

For the player to throw a potion the player must press a combination of keys together to throw a certain type of potion, and because of this there must be an animation to indicate that the witch is for example making or mixing up a potion and for that mixing up a potion. I have made a simple 2 frame animation where the hat and the robe of the witch is moving left to right which shows movement and that she is doing something.


Mixing Animation

Instead of showing the mixing process what I did was to only show the back of the witch with movement that represents the witch making a potion this is to save time and lower the animation frames.


I prefer that the chemicals are mix like the picture shown below by hand instead of a big mixing pot that the player must place

When the last key of the combo is press there will be a throwing frame where the witch throws the potion

Potions

There are 3 different types of potion for now which are the rabbit polymorph potion, frog polymorph potion and the acid potion. I took the flash design for the potion as it is easy to draw and the potions can be differentiated by the color seen through the glass.

Polymorph Enemies

When the enemies are hit by a certain potion they polymorph or get killed by that potion. The polymorph frog and rabbit has only 2 frames or animation where they move up and down and are represented by the rabbit and frog head and face. The enemies first shrink in size to the size of the frog and rabbit head then transforms into a rabbit or frog.

When the acid is thrown at the rabbit the rabbit begins to melt I did 3 frames of animation where the rabbit looks like its been melted by acid by flattening the head.

Props

I have also made some props that I can place in my game to further enhance the dark and grim atmosphere.

The skulls, tombstone, coffin and dead tree will be place all around the map. I will be using the cross as a checkpoint where when the player dies he gets resurrected and starts at the nearest cross. As for the head on pikes I will be placing them at the bottom of the map, this is because when the player touches an enemy the player will then become a ghost and fall to their death. When reaching the bottom the player will then see the head on pikes which indicate all of the dead witches that has came here to beat the puzzle and obtain the special power but has perish.

In the future I would love to use the shading technique that is done by Pedro Medeiros for the tiles and the character to make the character and tiles much more darker and to make them look much more detailed.
