Rob-BOTS! Owner AI Design


There are 5 main parts that goes into the Owner's AI in robots and making him behave close to a how we would behave when we hear spot someone of hear sound in our house. The 5 main parts that goes into the Owner AI are:


  • Owner movement and patrolling

  • Owner Sound detection

  • Owner searching for player

  • Owner Sight change when spotter the player

  • Owner attacking the player


In every level the owner will be on a path to patrol certain location there is also a chance where the owner will move from that set path and change to another patrolling path during the duration of the robbery. As the owner is patrolling he will stop at certain "Checkpoints" then look around before moving to the next location.


The player produces sound everything they walk or run and that radius will get bigger as they carry more heavier items in the level. The owner has the ability to sense the sound direction and move towards that location ignoring his current path to investigate the sound.


If the player manages to escape before getting spotter the owner will be in an alert state and search the nearby rooms for the player and after all rooms has been search for a certain amount of time the owner will then go back to his patrolling path which makes the player play more carefully. The owner is also able to spot the player if they walk in the range of a CCTV in which the owner will run towards that direction and investigate it.


When the player is spotted by the owner the owners sight range will change and become more narrower but longer. This will make the owner focus on the player in long hall ways and chase them oppose to the same wide arc vision which is for patrolling.


When in range the owner will attack the player dealing damage and potentially killing the player and sent back to his home in which the player has to repair himself before going out on another robbery.
